Yeah. Right. Probably.

Let’s face it. Honda is as American as BMW . And  why make stuff in the EU when you get zero tariffs?

Hot steaming pile of Brexit on a pie. When the waiter was asked what was on the #Brexit pizza, he said, “We promise it comes with everything, but it actually comes with nothing and it’s also expensive and very hard to digest”.

Because manufacture in the EU may be cheaper depending on where you go ( I haven’t of talk of Toyota closing their plant in the Czech R epublic) , also you’re avoiding foreign exchange fluctuations and long supply lines.

Leaving the EU didn’t help Swindon’s chances, but there’s a lot more going on, principally that Honda don’t sell well in Europe, having decided to concentrate on the Japanese and US markets , and are going backwards. Swindon has been running at about half capacity and the recent EU/Japan trade deal will remove import tariffs from Japanese made cars, thus removing one more reason to manufacture in the UK. If Honda had built their factory in Slovakia or the Czech Republic things might be different. Might, because there’s still the sales issue.

I think they do the CRV there. (Googles). No, the Civic in very small and evidently unsustainable numbers.

Note to self, don’t buy a EU Honda because those workers won’t care much now that they know they won’t have a job in 2 years.

It doesnt make sense to make them in the EU. And by 2021 the civic will be 6 years old which is the typical cycle time for a gen. So I assume Honda will consolidate the Civic to North America.

And the overall logistics of an EU plant doesn’t make sense. Engines, CVTs, and assuming wiring/ECU are all made in NA and have to be shipped to the UK. So if they are already shipping something over why not just ship the whole thing?

Im sure Brexit did weigh heavily on the decision. But the other thing that people don’t pay attention to is sales. Honda sells the same amount of cars in a year in the EU as it does in a month here in NA . And not to be mean but why pay attention to a market with that low of a sales volume?

Eh, I see Brexit as the Yoko Ono to Honda’s Beatles: not directly  responsible for the breakup, but sure as hell didn’t help relations.

This guy is interesting. He’ll take calls and then tear peoples argu ments apart. Also the cult of “believe”

This Steven Hunter guy is a former trade delegate that explains how shitty a no deal will be.

It’s telling when all the main leavers jump ship and move their company offshore.
